Christmas Cheer On the Square

Christmas On the Square, held on Saturday, December 7th was a fun and festive time that many, including Master of Ceremonies, David Coffelt, described as being like a scene from a a Hallmark Christmas movie.

Area children delighted in craft stations hosted by Azure Hollow, Brick House Coffee Bar & Eatery, Edward Jones: Jordan Raffety, and Garden Gate Floral. They also made sure to get hot chocolate from Edward Jones: George Morse, cookies and face-painting at Crown Realty, plus s’mores and visits with Santa and Mrs. Clause at The Vault.

The beautiful scene at Birdie’s Boutique & Antique was a popular stop for a great photo or two and event goers were also treated to carols sung by In the Light Chorale.

Kids of all ages and many adults enjoyed rides on the Harrisonville Rotary Train and Jenkins Bear Creek Ranch old-fashioned trolley pulled by a team of Percheron mules that jingled all the way around the Square.

Many also stopped in for the Chili Supper and Holiday Silent Auction hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and to purchase Love the Harrisonville Square raffle tickets.

Children in Kindergarten through 8th grade competed in the annual Christmas Pageant held inside the courtroom of the Cass County Courthouse and emceed by Mayor Judy Bowman. From the eleven wonderful participants, five winners were selected by the panel of judges. This year’s winners included:

  • Miss Candy Cane (K-1st): Ashley Jean Erickson
  • Mr. Candy Cane (K-1st): Phillip Barnes
  • Mr. Snowflake (2nd/3rd): Christopher Ray Erickson
  • Miss Holly (4th/5th): Emma Johnson
  • Miss Merry Christmas (6th/7th/8th): Haylie Forrest

As the afternoon came to an end, the Community Choir, led by director Kip Matthew, gathered on the steps of the courthouse and performed a selection of beloved Christmas songs for the gathering crowd.

Following the performance, the Mayor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony began with a welcome from Master of Ceremonies David Coffelt. Next, Love the Harrisonville Square President Happy Welch shared a message of thanks to all the participating businesses, sponsors and volunteers that made the evening possible. Then, Executive Director of the Harrisonville Area Chamber of Commerce, Bing Schimmelpfenning read the Christmas story. Finally, Mayor Judy Bowman joined by the winners of the Children’s Pageant flipped the switch and lit the Christmas Tree as the crowd helped countdown to the big moment.

Love the Harrisonville Square again extends our deepest thanks to all who attended, volunteered, sponsored or assisted in making the day possible.

Special thanks to Scott Beck for the amazing photos!
